New SBTi standard reinforces book & claim approach to transport decarbonisation

SBTi framework update: The Science Based Targets initiative’s updated Corporate Net-Zero Standard recognises book & claim as a credible approach for reducing transport emissions where direct emissions reductions are not yet feasible and strong safeguards are in place. Scaling sustainable fuels: DHL Group’s GoGreen Plus services use book & claim mechanisms to help customers reduce transport-related emissions, allowing sustainable fuel benefits to be allocated across logistics networks even where direct fuel blending limits are reached. Supporting logistics decarbonisation: DHL says the recognition of book & claim will help overcome barriers to sustainable fuel adoption and accelerate the transition towards lower-emission transport solutions across global supply chains. In June 2026, the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) published Version 2.0 of its Corporate Net-Zero Standard. The updated framework introduces book & claim as a credible mechanism for reducing transport emissions and contributing to corporate climate targets, particularly where further direct emissions reductions are not feasible and robust safeguards are in place. DHL Group has been among the pioneers of book & claim solutions in logistics through its GoGreen Plus services, helping customers reduce transport-related emissions. DHL’s GoGreen Plus services are aligned with the principles outlined in the updated standard and enable customers to address greenhouse gas emissions within shad transport networks. The recognition of book & claim helps overcome practical and economic barriers to scaling the use of sustainable fuels. For DHL, this means that when technical blending limits are reached on its own flights, the company can still account for additional volumes of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) blended elsewhere in the aviation system. The mechanism also enables DHL to transfer the environmental benefits of low-carbon fuels used within its network to customers whose shipments move through that network.
